September 10, 2007 - TELEVOX gig on Saturday 8th February 2008 - JOIGNY, FRANCE.
Vox pop(uli)
With very catchy songs relying on an unfailing rhythm section, the three-piece band TELEVOX, from Paris, thoroughly deserved to be on the top of the bill last Saturday night at the open air rock gig.
Fuzznut Profile (May 2007)
So I have to ask you, are you the type of music fan that happily laps up whatever the charts are serving? Or, are you the type that loves nothing more discovering a great new band that not many people know about yet? If you fall into the latter category, I have a incredible tip for you. Ready for it?
From Paris, Televox sound thoroughly modern with the tiniest tinge of mid 90's rock (the good kind). The only way I can describe them to you is for you to imagine that Ok Computer had a little more of the guitar-y goodness of The Bends. I don't want you to get the idea that Televox are just another Radiohead rip-off. They're not. Far from it. But there's no denying the fact that if you like one, you'll probably enjoy the other.
How this band escaped all the usual music blog hype and music discovery apps out there is beyond me. Don't bet on them being so unknown for very much longer because they have "it" in spades.
Graciously, the band have made several of their tracks available for download (free) through their Myspace page. Check out 'Angels', and the deceptively titled 'Merry X-mas', both hugely satisfying tunes mixing hooky guitars and sonic puncuations in all the right places.

What Can A Dead Bird Do? 6-Track release
What Can A Dead Bird Do? is TELEVOX's first album which gathers 6 songs in an ensemble of excellent quality. TELEVOX is not simply a French rock band that sings in English. One can feel there a calling for a wider international career. There are omnipresent guitars, breathtaking electro loops and an outstanding vocal presence.
TELEVOX's setlist is quite ambitious; in between pure rock (In The Mood, Higher-Self Matrix), constructive pop-rock (Sound Inside), pop (Happiness), techno-rock (What Can A Dead Bird Do?), and the unclassifiable Merry Xmas.
In summary, TELEVOX is a band with a more than promising career, during which we would love to see them on tour in Corsica.

September 28, 2007 - What Can A Dead Bird Do?
This song starts with guitars and electro beat reminiscent of Primal Scream and New Order, while the vocals go from the sweetness of Bernard Sumner to the conviction of Bobbie Gillespie at the end of the song. Loads of ingredients appear quickly in well-mastered sequences. The song then changes into a darker world, like a rhythmic steamroller evoking a more tortured version of Depeche Mode, close to Joy Division. In short, this song could be named "England for dummies!"
"In The Mood" is a radical change of world, with guitars taking over, both electric and acoustic. The vocals borrow the lyrical side of Muse, the oppressive side of Interpol, and the tricky side of Mansun. The nonchalance of the song reminds me of Echo & The Bunnymen, and the guitars reminds me of a post-80s Tears for Fears.
"Happiness" in a way starts like Kid A, between Idiotheque and Everything In Its Right Place. First this chase holds my breath, the tension increases until a trance takes control of you like in Archive or Sonic Youth. Then a shock of guitars breaks this growth and announces the coming storm which immediately follows, and then it all becomes like an electric road movie. Nine Inch Nails for the crazy side, Muse for the wall of sound and Doves for the mastering of it.
TELEVOX should be listened to very loud and is definitely a band that needs to be seen live, even if such well-written songs would be a challenge.
